The beaches at Scarborough and Filey are well worth a day trip and you could visit Castle Howard in York with its beautiful, grand gardens and Byland Abbey, a stunning Cistercian abbey in a whole array of architectural styles. Thirsk is a pretty market town with some great little shops and a market which is open on Mondays and Saturdays.
