Carlisle with its shops and lively nightlife is within 25 miles of the park, as is Hadrian's Wall, Gretna Green and the market town of Wigton. The Solway Coast Discovery Centre in Silloth is a fun way to find out about the environment, heritage and history of the Solway Coast and visitors can meet Romans, Vikings and monks!
The Cars of the Stars Museum in Keswick has cars and motorbikes from many famous films, including Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - and at Honister Slate Mine, visitors can enjoy a full guided tour into the mine. St Bee's Beach is a magical beach where children can search the rock pools for starfish and crabs.
