Pet Friendly Holidays

pet friendly cottagesWhether you are looking to take a two week holiday, one week or just a short break or long weekend, you will no doubt be looking forward to spending time with your family. Holidays are family times and these days we consider our pets to be part of our families too. In recent years more and more of us are deciding to take out pets on holiday, and this has led to an increase in the number of pet friendly holiday options available. Going abroad with your pet is possible but still somewhat inconvenient, UK holidays however are ideal and require very little planning. Simply choose your destination, find pet friendly accommodation, pack up your car and away you go.

While there are a good number of pet friendly hotels around, we think that private holiday accommodation is the perfect solution for taking a holiday with pets. Pet friendly cottages offer plenty of space, have a "home from home" feel and many also have gardens, giving your pet somewhere to run around. Pet friendly cottages are available to suit all budgets and party sizes, so whether you are looking for a cosy country cottage for two or a large beachside house for 20, there is bound to be something to suit your needs.

Deciding where to go is probably the toughest decision you will have to make. If you have energetic dogs to walk and children to keep happy, then a seaside resort or an area within a national park will be perfect.

Cornwall is one of favourite destinations for a beach based holiday with plenty of family attractions as well as stunning sandy beaches. Dog friendly beaches here include the gorgeous Perranporth Beach, offering miles of sand dunes, clear water for paddling and open space for running around.

If you are looking for a pet friendly holiday destination in the North then Northumberland is ideal. This region not only has beautiful coastal areas but also woodland, country parks and National Trust sites. We recommend visiting Embleton Bay with your dog to enjoy the long sandy beach, nearby castle and surrounding cliffs.

For a holiday inland with plenty of options for scenic walks The New Forest in Hampshire is the perfect place. This area of outstanding natural beauty is just waiting to be explored and you can discover it on foot, cycle or horse back. The wildlife in The New Forest is amazing and includes rabbits, foxes, birds, butterflies and badgers. Your dog may have to be on a lead in some woodland areas but there is plenty of wide open space too.

Some of our favourite dog friendly cottages include The Annex in Cornwall which sleeps 3. The cottage offers open plan accommodation, has one double bedroom and benefits from having a lovely patio garden. The location makes the cottage perfect for with pets as Dartmoor National Park is right on the doorstep. Several beaches are also within easy reach.

In Northumberland, Drovers Rest is one of our favourite pet friendly cottages. The isolated location, with walks extending from the doorstep is ideal for those with pets. The cottage sleeps 4 and offers traditional open plan design, country style décor and some lovely original features. The large lawned garden with pond, patio and garden furniture is a real bonus.

On the edge of The New Forest The Chalet is a good option for families with pets and can sleep up to 6 people. This pet friendly cottage has been furnished and equipped to a very high standard and has some delightful features including a woodburner in the cosy sitting room and a fantastic, large enclosed garden with forest views. This Ringwood cottage has direct access to large areas of heathland so the position could hardy be better for dog walking!
