Alnwick Castle is perhaps best known for its starring role as Hogwarts School of witchcraft and wizardry in the Harry Potter Movies, but it has been one of Northumberland's top tourist attractions for many years. Alnwick Castle offers something for the whole family including history, fine art, fantastic scenery, gorgeous grounds and organized activities for children.
Each day the Castle provides guided tours of the main castle and the grounds, with fascinating stories from the past being told along the way. Children can enjoy dressing up as historically important characters from the castles history and from Harry Potter, and will also love meeting the Dragon Master.
Regular workshops and sessions are held to allow hands on fun including theatrical classes, archery, spell making and magic classes. The castles falconry is a real highlight and the whole family will love meeting the owls and birds of prey during the flying demonstrations.
The beautiful grounds are the perfect place for a picnic during the warmer months and children will love spotting the many species of wildlife which include rabbits, deer and birds. Themed events such as pumpkin parades, Easter egg hunts and carol singing can also be enjoyed during school holidays.
The Court Yard Cafe serves refreshments including sandwiches, cakes and pastries as well as hot meals and the castle shop is the perfect place to pick up a souvenir.
A family ticket for the castle and gardens is £48.00 and tickets for just the castle or just the gardens are also available.
